More great recycling ideas from Ideas2Action!

Hello and welcome to the July issue of Ideas2Action Recycling News.

We've just updated the We Need That Directory. Some new organisations have joined us, as well as the additions to existing entries.  See page 2 of The Directory for all our new entries.

You may remember that we were finalists in the MRW National Recycling Awards in the waste prevention category.  Sadly we didn't win this time, but the experience of entering has been really useful and perhaps it’ll be our turn one day in the future!

On the subject of awards, Ideas2Action is going to run its own Recycling Awards event during Recycle Week on Friday 16 September.  We want to recognise people who are keen recyclers and who go that extra mile to help cut down on waste.  This is where you can help!  Do you know any keen recyclers who deserve an award?  These are the categories:

  1. Adult recycler (over 18)
  2. A team of recyclers from a company
  3. A team of recycling volunteers
  4. The Number 1 recycler  (someone who has really gone the extra mile)
  5. Young recycler (under 18)
  6. A company which recycles (but not one where its main business is recycling)

If you’d like a nomination form please download one from our website here

Now for the rest of the news!

Best wishes, Monique

CUTLERY COLLECTION

We were delighted to help the AOK Rucksack Appeal find the cutlery they wanted to make up sets for the care kits they prepare for homeless people.  The Borough of Poole New To You warehouse contains good quality items rescued from landfill for sale. The Council were able to donate  cutlery previously taken to the tip. It’s great that the knives, forks and teaspoons have a new use, especially for a good cause like helping homeless people.

DORSET CANCER CARE TOILETRIES APPEAL

Dorset Cancer Care are looking for the following: any facial make-up, hair care, bath care and hand care products (including nail polishes).  There are three strands to this:

  1. New items are used for their raffles
  2. Partly-used items are sent abroad to
  3. Empty and almost empty containers are sorted and recycled.

We particularly like the idea that they will take partly-used ones and will do some recycling too. All proceeds from sales remain here in Dorset to help local people suffering from cancer.

If you come to Win on Waste sessions then please bring any toiletries for donation to the next session on 20th August.  If you don’t please email Annie at Dorset Cancer Care to organise handover arrangements.
