One of our wonderful Recycling Ambassadors, Laura Cousins, ran a Win on Waste taster session on Saturday 8 October at Pelhams Leisure Centre in Kinson with the idea of showing local people the type of items they can save from their rubbish ready to donate at the launch of Win on Waste – Kinson on 5 November.

We visited Lilliput Sea Scouts, Beavers group on 6 October with the aim of showing the boys what they can do with some items from their waste. Biscuit wrappers for instance. Instead of throwing them in the bin they can be donated to us and we organise for them to be sent off and turned into new plastic. They created their own Munchy Monster Mouths from old wallpaper and various craft materials, before voting on the two they thought the best. Then thanks to the help of two Mums, they had an exciting game of running up and down the hall in two teams to feed the monster mouths with biscuit wrappers. The final score was a draw so each team won a packet of biscuits.

In spite of all the tempting bargains on offer at New to You in Cabot Lane, we did have interest from the public about our projects on Saturday 1 October. With rubbish bins only being collected once a fortnight now in Poole, we aimed to show people that they can slim their bins and help a good cause at the same time.
The Big Green Show held on 20 September at the Hilton Hotel in Southampton was a huge success. We had 27 visitors to our stand and there was lots of interest in our projects. Looking forward to next year now!

Our first Win on Waste project in Bournemouth, Southbourne Win-on-Waste was launched at Southbourne Library on Saturday 17 September. Co-ordinated by Sarah one of our Recycling Ambassadors, the following items were donated by local residents: milk bottle tops, stamps, Tassimo discs, biscuit wrappers, jewellery, corks, baby food pouches, yoghurt pots and cleaning product items. Eight good causes will benefit from receiving the items.

We saw 23 donors at our Win on Waste session on Saturday 17 September. As it was Recycle Week there was a prize for the person donating the most items. This was won by Trevor and Lorraine Muddimer. Well done to them. Items donated (in carrier bags) included beer bottle tops (1), Tassimo discs (2), milk bottle tops (6), biscuit wrappers (2), newspapers (26), stamps (1), cleaning products (2) and CDs’ (1). Five organisations are benefitting from the items as well as two artists who are using the beer bottle tops and CDs for arts projects. The date of the next session is 15 October.
As it was Recycle Week, donors at the Win on Waste session in Creekmoor Library on Saturday 17 September had the opportunity to stay for tea and cake. Twenty donors took part bringing along (in carrier bags) Tassimo discs (1) milk bottle tops (3), biscuit wrappers (1), newspapers (15), stamps (1), items from cleaning products (1/2) plus vintage crockery wanted for a tea dance and some toiletries. The next session is the 15 October.
We’re looking forward to the start of Recycle Week, especially as our inaugural Recycling Awards event takes place on Friday 16th. Certificates will be presented to individuals and organisations who make a big difference when it comes to cutting down on waste and recycling. There will also be presentations and films.
On Saturday 17th we are running three Win-on-Waste sessions in: Canford Heath, Creekmoor and for the first time, in Southbourne which is being co-ordinated by one of our wonderful Recycling Ambassadors, Sarah. Win on Waste sessions offer residents the opportunity to save specific items from their rubbish/recycling each month and donate them at given venues. Throughout the week, Branksome Library will be hosting a collection box for library visitors to drop off any biscuit wrappers or cleaning product items such as washing-up liquid tops, sprays, pumps and disinfectant wipe packets. All these will be crushed up and made into new plastic. The money raised will help us with our fundraising.
A massive total of 52 carrier bags of waste items were donated by 45 Canford Heath and Creekmoor residents on Saturday 20 August during Win on Waste sessions held in Creekmoor Library and the Coffee House Café in Adastral Square, Canford Heath. There were also smaller amounts of ring pulls, sweet wrappers, stamps and CD’s. Six organisations will benefit from the donations.
