Win on Waste Creekmoor

WonWCreek14.5.16At the Win on Waste session at Creekmoor Library on Saturday 14 May an amazing 20 carrier bags of paper and magazines were donated along with 2 bags of bottle tops and 1 of padded envelopes and bubble wrap.

The next session takes place on Saturday 18 June between 11.30 and 12.30.

Successful Saturday for Canford Heath Win on Waste

WonW 14.5.16We had a great turn out at the Coffee Shop Café for our Win on Waste Canford Heath session on Saturday 14 May with 28 people donating the following items (numbers are in carrier bags):

Bubble wrap = 6, padded envelopes = 5, milk bottle tops =4, biscuit wrappers=1, newspapers=10, cleaning products = 1/2 plus one box of keys and one of cutlery.

The 18 June is the date of the next donation session.

 

 

 

Win on Waste – Saturday 14 May

Residents living in Canford Heath and Creekmoor will be donating the items they have been saving since last month this Saturday.  Canford Heath at the Coffee House between 10 and 11am and Creekmoor at Creekmoor Library between 11.30 and 12.30.  Items being donated include…..

  • Bubble wrap (Dorset Blind Association)
  • Padded envelopes (Dorset Blind Association)
  • Milk bottle tops (Gift of Sight)
  • Biscuit wrappers (for us!)
  • Newspapers/magazines/junk mail (Dorset Community Foundation)
  • Stamps (Lewis-Manning Hospice)
  • Cleaning product items (for us)

Rescued cutlery finds a new home

DSCF3583All this lovely cutlery ended up at the Borough of Poole tip.  But now, thanks to it being rescued by the Borough’s New2You project and some publicity from us, it will be finding a new home with the AOK Rucksack Appeal.  The AOK Rucksack Appeal work with homeless people in a variety of ways including providing rucksacks filled with essential items for those who are newly homeless.  http://www.aokrucksackappeal.org.uk/

We welcome Oakdale Residents Community Association and Poole Heart Support Group to We Need That (page 19). Their needs include: carrier bags, greetings cards (family events), jewellery (odd beads, chains), material scraps, stamps, string and cotton and wool (full or odd balls). Dorset Blind Association have also added two new items to their list: bubble wrap and padded envelopes (page 11).   We are also now collecting items from cleaning products (page 17).

Make May Mobile Phone Month

Our Make May Mobile Phone Month aims to encourage people to have a sort out for any unwanted mobile phones then donate them during May.  Phones can be dropped off at any Poole Library (see the list here:http://www.poole.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/libraries/your-libraries/)  and popped in one of their self-service machine boxes.  At the beginning of June all the phones will be counted up and distributed amongst the following:  AOK Rucksack Appeal, Age UK Bournemouth, Branksome Children’s Centre, Diverse Abilities, Dorset Blind Association, Forest Holme Hospice, Pound Puppy Animal Rescue and Ted Webster Children’s Centre.

Next donation dates for Canford Heath and Creekmoor Win on Waste Groups

The next donation day for Canford Heath and Creekmoor Win on Waste groups will be Saturday 14 May.  Canford Heath will meet at the Coffee House Café between 10 and 11am and Creekmoor at Creekmoor Library between 11.30 and 12.30.  These are the items currently being saved:

  • Bubble wrap (Dorset Blind Association)
  • Padded envelopes (Dorset Blind Association)
  • Milk bottle tops (Gift of Sight or Priest House Museum)
  • Biscuit wrappers (Ideas2Action)
  • Newspapers/magazines/junk mail (Dorset Community Foundation)
  • Stamps (Lewis-Manning Hospice)
  • Cleaning product items (Ideas2Action)

Plus Dorset Blind Association has asked for netting suitable for making ballet tutus, so if you have any to donate, please bring it along.

Creekmoor’s Win on Waste Group Donates

Eight residents popped into Creekmoor Library for the Win on Waste donation session on Saturday 16 April and altogether 14 carrier bags of items were donated including CD’s, milk bottle tops, biscuit wrappers, newspapers/junk mail/magazines, stamps and cleaning product items.

What a lot of Waste!

Twenty six people donated over 30 carrier bags and two cardboard boxes of items at the Canford Heath Win on Waste donation day at the Coffee House Cafe on Saturday 16 April.  There were carrier bags of CD’s, milk bottle tops, biscuit wrappers, newspapers/junk mail/magazines, stamps, cleaning product items, cardboard tubes and jam jars.  All the items will be put to good use or will be used to help raise money for the voluntary organisations who requested them.

Amazing news: we are a MRW National Recycling Awards 2016 Finalist

We are thrilled to announce that we are a finalist in the MRW National Recycling Awards 2016 for our recycling projects in the Waste Prevention Award – Public and Third category.  In order for the judges to choose the winners of all the categories, finalists are being invited up to London to give a presentation to them in May.  The winners will be announced on 6 July at their Awards Evening in the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.  Wish us luck!
